Regulated dove hunting is allowed in 40 of the lower 48 states, from the Southeast to the Southwest and well up into the Midwest.

Public and private fields
Many state wildlife agencies plant and manage public dove fields for opening day, and some require a permit or lottery for the most popular fields. Private land with harvested grain is a classic opening day spot.
Southern and western doves
The South and Southwest add white-winged doves to the mix, and early migrants from the north can bring new birds through as the season goes on.
Always check the state’s regulations and any permit requirements for public fields.
